A Win-Win Situation
Our volunteer attorneys, who provide thousands of hours of free legal services, make our system work. Without their dedication and commitment, there would be no Pro Bono Program. With the support of our volunteer attorneys, we look forward to the future of Pro Bono in Montgomery County. We have endless admiration for our dedicated volunteers, who assist clients.
There are benefits built into the Pro Bono Program for our volunteer attorneys, who may serve in a variety of ways, from taking cases to spending time with walk-in clients at one of our four legal clinics. The Pro Bono Program provides free training through the Montgomery County, MD, Bar Foundation Continuing Legal Education program, free mentoring by veteran volunteer attorneys, and free malpractice insurance for volunteer attorneys during the duration of their Pro Bono case.
The Pro Bono Program is a wonderful way for any attorney to serve the Montgomery County community and fulfill their Rule 6.1 obligation, and volunteering can be valuable for new attorneys who need training, experience, and insurance. Often, a Pro Bono case will end with not only the client receiving hundreds of dollars worth of benefits, but the attorney receives the intangible benefits of knowing they made a difference in the life of a client.
We strongly encourage you to participate in this important program. Your volunteer hours are crucial to the existence of this program, and to the hundreds of clients a year who depend on our volunteer attorneys to provide them with dedicated, conscientious legal assistance.
